Who are the Aaron, Francoise and Valleries of Pointe Coupee, Louisiana?
I am a descendant of the Aaron, Francoise and Vallerie families. In my research on my family lineage I discovered my ancestry has French Creole and Indian roots.
My family’s line is very complex and I would like a seriously good researcher who is familiar with Pointe Coupee, Louisiana history to help me with my genealogical & historical research of these family members. I have tried to get copies of these records, but have not been able to locate or confirm that this information is accurate on the Aaron (which I think may have Jewish roots), Francoise and Vallerie (Indian tribe unknown) family line. I have contacted different local agencies in Louisiana and had some good help from a few people, but there are no church records to support the information I have been given.
Please contact me via email or by phone with any data that you are willing to share to that may help me learn more about doing research on the Aaron, Francoise and Vallerie families from Pointe Coupee, Louisiana. My email account is : tyingtheknot@gmx.com
The Bayogoula, Choctow, Mobilian, Natchez, Okelousa, Oumas, and Tunica tribes at one time resided in the area around Pointe Coupée. Which tribe your Vallerie ancestor descended from if any, is likely tied to the approximate time of the marriage/co-habitation. Rumler in his contribution to the “Pointe Coupee Parish history” wrote that at the time the Pointe Coupée poste was established, 1712, the only remaining tribe in the vicinity of Pointe Coupée were the Tunicas, though the Natchez lived not too far off.
The Vallerie surname comes up in the early history of that area, as one of that name is listed as part of the company of 15 men who accompanied Capt. Etienne Layssard to Post Du Rapides along the Red River abt 1723. Apparently, descendants of that man resided for a time in Grant Parish, Louisiana. Possibly expanding your research to their records may help you with that line?
The early church records of Pointe Coupée certainly existed as late as 1974, as Winston De Ville edited a book entitled “First settlers of Pointe Coupée a study based on early Louisiana church records, 1737-1750.” The fact that he based his study on the early church records would indicate to me that he read and studied them… 🙂 A search for that book led me to Amazon, where a used copy can be found: First Settlers of Pointe Coupée: A study, based on early Louisiana church records, 1737-1750 . Perhaps, and hopefully, in that manuscript he details where he found the records at.
Church records are not the only source of material available though, there were also civil records specific to Pointe Coupée, and if you can get yourself a copy of “Pointe Coupée families in colonial Louisiana abstracts of civil records, 1771-1782, by Laverne Thomas, 2009; published Baton Rouge, Louisiana: Provincial Press, c2009” you may find further information. This is the first volume of what is to become a series providing the records through 1800. Laverne Thomas was thorough in his research providing names of French Creoles, Native Americans, and Slaves.
The Provincial Press, which publishes the book above has additional manuscripts specific to Pointe Coupée which may assist you in at least narrowing your research: The Provincial Press
Best Wishes, Dennis

Question: Was Severin Francois married twice or is Amelie b. 1820 and Eugenie b. 1830 the same person? I want very much to learn the origins of my family.
