His parents were Joseph Gigler and Elisabeth Liegl, both born in Hungary. According to the US Census of 1900 he emmigrated to he US in 1892 (to New York City). He was also recorded as „miner“ in „Ketchikan mining district“. The Census furthermore states, that he had been naturalized by then, and came to Alaska in 1898. in the year 1910 he was living in Township 16, Kern CA.
